Introduction

Did you know that it is possible to experience joy that rises above every situation? This kind of joy is so deep, so powerful, that words are not enough to fully explain it. It is not a temporary happiness based on circumstances, but a lasting, transforming joy that flows from a relationship with God. This joy is often connected to genuine worship and spiritual encounters with God. In today’s lesson, we will focus on the apostle Peter’s teaching in 1 Peter 1:6–9 about what he describes as “joy unspeakable and full of glory.”

Lesson Focus

A. The Basis for Unspeakable Joy

Our joy as believers is rooted in what God has done for us:

We have been set apart through the sanctifying work of the Holy Spirit (v.2).

We have been cleansed by the sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ (v.2).

We are born again into a living hope through Christ’s resurrection (v.3).

We are God’s chosen people—His elect (v.2).

We are kept and protected by God’s power through faith (v.5).

We have an inheritance that is incorruptible and reserved for us in heaven (v.4).

We look forward to the salvation that will be fully revealed in the last days (v.5, 9).

B. Experiencing Deep and Lasting Joy Through Worship

Worship brings us into God’s presence, where true and lasting joy is found (Psalm 16:11).

This joy is not based on circumstances, but on who God is (John 15:11).

Worship lifts our focus from our problems and reminds us of God’s love, faithfulness, and power (1 Peter 1:8–9).

The joy of the Lord gives us strength during difficult times and sustains us through trials (Nehemiah 8:10).

Worship can be expressed in many ways—singing, praying, serving others, and obeying God (Philippians 4:4).

Conclusion

All these spiritual blessings form the foundation of our unspeakable joy. Because of what Christ has done for us, we can rejoice greatly—even in challenging times. How deep is this joy? The Bible tells us that in God’s presence there is fullness of joy (Psalm 16:11).
