Lesson Twenty (20)
Topic: Knowing the Mind of God
HOUSE FELLOWSHIP ANTHEM
I love this family of God,
So closely knitted into one;
They have taken me into their arms,
And I am so glad to be
A part of this great family.
I bless this family of God,
So greatly prospered by the Lord;
They have taken me into their arms,
And I am so glad to be
A part of this great family.
I know this family of God,
So deeply rooted in the Word;
They have taken me into their arms,
And I am so glad to be
A part of this great family.
I see this family of God,
So highly lifted above all;
They have taken me into their arms,
And I am so glad to be
A part of this great family.
Come, join this family of God,
So highly favoured by the Lord;
They have taken me into their arms,
And I am so glad to be
A part of this great family.
OPENING PRAYER
Father, give me the grace to know You better and to serve You more faithfully in 2026.
PREVIOUS KNOWLEDGE
Leaders should briefly remind members of last week’s lesson titled “It Is Well.”
MEMORY VERSE
“And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God.”
(Romans 8:27)
BIBLE TEXT: Romans 8:26–28
Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought; but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.
And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God.
And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to His purpose.
LESSON INTRODUCTION
Knowing the mind of God means understanding His thoughts, desires, and will for humanity—especially for His children who believe in Him. God’s plans for us are not revealed all at once but unfold gradually as our relationship with Him deepens.
According to Jeremiah 29:11, God’s thoughts toward us are good and not evil, designed to bring us to a future filled with hope and fulfilment. The psalmist also declares that God’s works are great and His thoughts are very deep (Psalm 92:5). Because God’s ways are far above human understanding, His mind cannot be fully grasped without divine help.
LESSON AIM
To help members understand that knowing God is the solution to life’s challenges.
TEACHING OBJECTIVES
At the end of this lesson, members should be able to:
Understand how to access the mind of God.
Live according to the will of God.
TEXT REVIEW: Romans 8:26–28
The Holy Spirit helps believers in all areas of life, including their weaknesses and daily challenges.
The Holy Spirit intercedes for believers with groanings that cannot be expressed in words.
The Spirit prays for believers in alignment with God’s will.
Everything that happens to believers works together for their good when they walk according to God’s purpose.
LESSON OUTLINE ONE
How to Access the Mind of God
The mind of God and His plans for His children are revealed by God Himself through the following means:
Developing a personal relationship with God (John 1:12).
Living a holy and righteous life (Hebrews 1:9).
Engaging in fervent and consistent prayer (Proverbs 8:17; Jeremiah 29:11–13).
Delighting in and studying the Word of God (Isaiah 58:2).
Maintaining communion with the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 2:9–12).
LESSON OUTLINE TWO
Living According to the Will of God
Living in God’s will is essential to knowing His mind. It involves living by kingdom principles and aligning our lives with God’s Word. To live according to God’s will, believers must:
Walk in obedience to God’s Word (Deuteronomy 28:1–2).
Walk by faith and trust fully in God (Genesis 18:19; James 2:22–23).
Live a sacrificial life dedicated to God (Romans 12:1).
Refuse to conform to worldly standards but be transformed by a renewed mind (Romans 12:2).
Guard salvation diligently and work it out with reverence (Philippians 2:12–13).
Seek to walk in God’s approval (Acts 13:22).
Live a meek, humble, and Spirit-filled life (Galatians 5:22–23).
Maintain an attitude of gratitude and thanksgiving (1 Thessalonians 5:18).
SUMMARY
All things work together for the good of believers when they align themselves with God’s plans and purposes.
CONCLUSION
The mind of God is deep and beyond human comprehension. However, through the Holy Spirit, believers have access to the deep things of God (1 Corinthians 2:10).
WEEKLY ACTIVITY
Discuss practical ways believers can live according to God’s will.
