For when God made promise to Abraham, because He could swear by no greater, He swore by Himself, saying, Surely blessing I will bless thee, and multiplying I will multiply thee.

BIBLE READING: 2 Samuel 7:1–16

MESSAGE

In today’s Bible reading, God made an extraordinary covenant with David. He assured him that even if his descendants sinned after his death, He would only discipline them and would never withdraw His mercy. God declared that David’s throne would be established forever. This explains why Jesus Christ, the King of kings, later revealed Himself as “the Root and the Offspring of David” (Revelation 22:16). This promise stands as a powerful example of an irreversible blessing.

A closer look at the passage shows that God made this covenant immediately after David expressed a heartfelt desire to build a house for Him—something no one had ever attempted before. David’s intention touched God’s heart, and in response, God released a blessing that could not be revoked.

Similarly, in Genesis 22:1–18, God tested Abraham by asking him to offer his only son as a sacrifice. When Abraham obeyed without hesitation, God swore by Himself to bless him. Although God’s word alone is final and unquestionable, He swore to emphasize that the blessing pronounced upon Abraham was permanent and irreversible.

This teaches us a vital lesson: irreversible blessings often follow acts of obedience and sacrifice that deeply please God. When you do something that truly touches His heart, He can release blessings that cannot be cancelled.

Scripture also reveals that a father can pronounce irreversible blessings. In Genesis 27:30–33, after Isaac blessed Jacob, Esau arrived and sought the same blessing. However, Isaac declared that the blessing given to Jacob could not be reversed. Notably, Jacob had just prepared a special meal that delighted his father before receiving that blessing.

When you honor and please your father—or a father figure—such that he blesses you sincerely, that blessing carries great power. I pray that God will grant you irreversible blessings, in Jesus’ mighty name. Amen.
