Topic: Beware of Spiritual Crocodiles (IV)

Memory Verse

“Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves.”

— Matthew 7:15

Bible Reading

Matthew 7:15–20

Beware of false prophets who appear to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are fierce and destructive wolves.

You will recognize them by their fruits. Do people gather grapes from thorn bushes or figs from thistles?

In the same way, every good tree produces good fruit, but a bad tree produces bad fruit.

A good tree cannot produce bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot produce good fruit.

Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.

Therefore, you will know them by their fruits.

Exposition

In everyday life, we are often warned to be careful of dangers that may not be obvious. Likewise, the Bible alerts us to certain spiritual dangers that are hidden and deceptive. One of these dangers can be likened to “spiritual crocodiles.” Just as crocodiles remain hidden beneath the water before attacking their prey, false teachings and deceptive leaders often disguise themselves under the appearance of righteousness.

These spiritual predators may appear harmless, sincere, or even deeply spiritual, yet their true intention is to mislead and destroy the faith of believers. Jesus therefore warned His followers to be cautious of false prophets who outwardly appear gentle but inwardly are destructive (Matthew 7:15).

Like a crocodile lurking beneath the surface of the water, such individuals can cause serious spiritual harm if believers are not watchful. This is why Christians must remain spiritually alert, guided by the Holy Spirit, and firmly rooted in God’s Word.

Believers are called to examine every teaching and spirit carefully, ensuring they align with the truth of Scripture. Only through discernment and a strong foundation in God’s Word can we avoid falling into deception. Remain vigilant and firmly anchored in the truth of God.
