God’s Word goes beyond all barriers, bringing hope, unity, and transformation to people of every generation and culture.

Brief Comment

The outpouring of the Holy Spirit on the Day of Pentecost remains one of the clearest demonstrations of the universal nature of God’s Word. On that day, believers were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in different languages. People from many nations and cultural backgrounds gathered in Jerusalem heard the apostles proclaim the gospel in their own native languages.

This remarkable event shows that God’s Word transcends cultural and language barriers. It also demonstrates the power of the Holy Spirit, who empowers believers to communicate God’s truth to all people.

The message of the gospel is therefore meant for every nation, tribe, and culture. God desires that all people come to know Him and experience transformation through His Word. This universal message promotes unity even in the midst of diversity.

We thank God for the successful completion of last week’s lesson titled “Jesus Affirms the Scripture.” In that lesson, we saw how Jesus fulfilled prophecies spoken long ago, proving the reliability and truth of God’s Word. This should strengthen our confidence in the Scriptures.

Today’s lesson focuses on “The Universality of God’s Word.” It is interesting that this lesson coincides with International Women’s Day, reminding us that God shows no partiality regarding gender, tribe, culture, or ethnicity. He is the God of all people, and both men and women are equally valued in His sight.

God’s Word remains relevant across all cultures and generations. It transcends language barriers, cultural differences, and societal limitations. The message of the Bible unites people under the lordship of Christ and continues to bring hope, guidance, and transformation to every generation.

I. Its Relevance Across Culture and Time

(Matthew 28:19–20; Acts 2:8–11; Romans 1:16; 2 Timothy 3:16)

"For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes..."

a. Acts 2:8 – Language is a natural means of communication among people. Through the Holy Spirit, the language barrier was broken as believers spoke in various languages so that everyone present could understand the message of God.

b. Acts 2:11 – The apostles spoke in many languages, demonstrating that God’s Word is not limited by culture or language. His message is meant to be understood by everyone.

c. The coming of the Holy Spirit united people from diverse backgrounds. Despite their differences, they were brought together through faith in Christ.

d. Matthew 28:19–20 – The Great Commission reveals God’s desire for all nations to hear the gospel. It is the responsibility of the Church to take this message to the entire world.

e. 2 Timothy 3:16–17 – All Scripture is inspired by God and remains relevant in every generation. It teaches, corrects, and guides people toward righteous living.

f. Romans 1:16 – When properly applied, God’s Word transforms lives regardless of culture, age, race, or gender.

g. The Bible also addresses modern issues such as injustice, oppression, inequality, and corruption, making its message timeless and applicable to every culture.

II. Its Timelessness and Cosmic Effect

a. Isaiah 40:8 – God’s Word stands forever. Despite changes in the world, His truth remains constant and reliable.

b. Hebrews 13:8 – Jesus Christ never changes. His love, character, and teachings remain the same throughout every generation.

c. Revelation 7:9 – The gospel is for all people. The vision of a great multitude from every nation, tribe, language, and people before God shows the universal reach of His message.

d. Biblical virtues such as love, kindness, humility, and forgiveness (Colossians 3:12–14) remain relevant for all people, regardless of time or location.

e. Titus 2:13 – The Bible offers hope to every generation as believers look forward to the return of Christ.

f. God’s Word remains constant and provides a firm foundation and hope for everyone, everywhere.

Centuries ago, the people of Bonager town decided to stop drinking water after their king drowned in a river. Out of grief, they stayed committed to this decision for a few days. However, within a week, severe dehydration set in, and some were close to death. They soon realised that water, despite their grief, was essential for life.

In the same way, God’s Word is like water—vital, universal, and necessary for spiritual life. Just as water sustains the body, God’s Word nourishes and sustains the soul.

Therefore, do not distance yourself from God’s Word. Allow it to guide your life, strengthen your faith, and draw you closer to Him. Remain spiritually refreshed by engaging with the Scriptures daily.

Conclusion

God’s Word is meant for everyone. It unites people across cultures and generations. The Bible reveals God’s promises and strengthens our faith as we see them fulfilled.

The gospel invites all people—regardless of their background—to experience salvation and transformation through Jesus Christ. As believers live by and share this truth, they contribute to building a world that reflects the love and justice of God’s kingdom.
