Message

God loves His children deeply (1 John 3:1) and desires to bless them with blessings that add no sorrow (Proverbs 10:22). However, as a wise and responsible Father, God sometimes withholds certain answers to prayer when He knows His children are not yet mature enough to handle what they are asking for.

Just as a responsible parent would never give a five-year-old child a car to drive—no matter how much the child pleads—God will not release certain blessings until He knows we can manage them wisely. Before granting some requests, God ensures that the blessing will not harm us, distract us, or derail us from fulfilling His purpose for our lives. He will never give His children anything that would ultimately damage their destiny.

The Scripture says:

“Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.”

— 3 John 2

God desires our prosperity and good health, but these are tied to the prosperity of our souls. Spiritual growth and maturity are essential. This is why we must continually nourish our souls with the Word of God. As we do so, prosperity and divine blessings begin to manifest in every area of our lives.

Joshua 1:8 further emphasizes this truth:

“This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night… for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.”

Beloved, when your heart is filled with God’s Word, you are positioned to enjoy His blessings and experience lasting success. The Scriptures also teach that those who delight in God’s Word and meditate on it continually are like trees planted by rivers of water—fruitful in every season, with leaves that never wither. Such people prosper in all they do (Psalm 1:2–3).

There are, however, different dimensions of God’s blessings. Over the next two days, we will examine two of them: conditional blessings and irreversible blessings. May God’s blessings rest upon you as you continue to grow spiritually and prosper in your soul.

Key Point

The more your soul prospers, the more of God’s blessings you will enjoy.

Hymnal: 26 – There Shall Be Showers of Blessing

There shall be showers of blessing;

This is the promise of love;

There shall be seasons refreshing,

Sent from the Savior above.

Refrain:

Showers of blessing,

Showers of blessing we need;

Mercy-drops round us are falling,

But for the showers we plead.

There shall be showers of blessing,

Precious reviving again;

Over the hills and the valleys,

Sound of abundance of rain. (Refrain)

There shall be showers of blessing:

Send them upon us, O Lord;

Grant to us now a refreshing,

Come and now honor Thy Word. (Refrain)

There shall be showers of blessing;

Oh, that today they might fall,

Now as to God we’re confessing,

Now as on Jesus we call! (Refrain)
