Bible Reading

Psalm 127:1–5

Unless the LORD builds the house, those who build it labour in vain; unless the LORD watches over the city, the watchman stays awake in vain.

It is futile for you to rise early and stay up late, eating the bread of sorrow, for He gives His beloved rest.

Children are a heritage from the LORD, the fruit of the womb a reward.

Like arrows in the hand of a warrior are the children born in one’s youth.

Blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them; they will not be put to shame, but will speak with their enemies at the city gate.

Exposition

Psalm 127:1 reveals a timeless truth: no matter how much effort we invest, any work not founded on God is ultimately futile. Human determination alone cannot secure lasting success. If the Lord has not initiated a venture, it will not enjoy His provision, protection, or blessing.

King Saul illustrates this reality clearly. Although chosen by God to rule Israel, he gradually stepped outside God’s instructions and followed his own desires (1 Samuel 13:13–14). As a result, God’s favour and support were withdrawn. In contrast, David consistently sought God’s heart and direction (Acts 13:22). Despite facing numerous trials, he repeatedly experienced God’s favour, guidance, and provision.

Many people wrongly believe that success is determined by intelligence, skill, or connections. However, true success flows from obedience to God’s leading. When the Lord builds, He also funds, protects, and sustains the work (Proverbs 2:6). Are you labouring without divine direction? Submit your plans to God today, trusting that if He has launched them, He will supply everything required.

Prayer Points

Lord, help me to trust You as the foundation of all my endeavours.

Lord, help me to always recognise that true success comes from You alone.

Pray that God will deliver both young and old involved in Yahoo-Yahoo and other dangerous activities.
