LESSON 34

TOPIC: THE MARRIAGE BED

OPENING PRAYER

Dear Lord, help me to keep my marriage bed holy, in Jesus’ name.

PREVIOUS KNOWLEDGE

The assistant teacher should briefly review the previous lesson.

BIBLE PASSAGE: GENESIS 49:1–4

Jacob gathered his sons and spoke concerning their future:

He called them together to hear his final words.

Reuben, his firstborn, was described as strong and dignified.

However, he was unstable and lost his honor because he defiled his father’s bed.

MEMORY VERSE

“Marriage is honourable in all, and the bed undefiled: but whoremongers and adulterers God will judge.” — Hebrews 13:4

INTRODUCTION

The “marriage bed” refers to the sacred union and sexual intimacy shared between a husband and wife. It symbolizes love, faithfulness, and mutual satisfaction within marriage. According to Hebrews 13:4, marriage must be honored, and sexual purity must be maintained. Any form of immorality defiles this sacred bond and attracts God’s judgment. Therefore, faithfulness in marriage is essential.

LESSON AIM

To teach the sacredness of sexual intimacy in marriage.

TEACHING OBJECTIVES

By the end of this lesson, students should be able to:

Define the term “marriage bed.”

Identify actions that defile the marriage union.

Explain how to preserve purity in marriage.

TEACHING PLAN

To achieve the objectives, the teacher should:

Encourage students to recite the memory verse and read the Bible passage.

Engage the class in discussions and activities.

Allow the assistant teacher to manage attendance and assignments.

Teach, summarize, evaluate, and assign follow-up tasks.
