Nature and God’s laws both reflect His glory, wisdom, and eternal power.

Brief Commentary

The story of creation in Genesis tells us that God spoke the world into existence. The Psalms also describe the universe and all living things as the works of God’s hands. This shows clearly that the entire world belongs to God.

When we look at the heavens, we see God’s glory displayed through the sun, moon, stars, and the beauty of nature. Everything in creation was made with purpose. God designed the world to provide everything humanity needs to live and flourish.

Imagine a world without the sun, moon, stars, or plants—it would be impossible for life to exist. These elements of creation reveal God’s presence and demonstrate His care for sustaining human life (Psalm 8:4-6).

We thank God for the lessons learned in Unit I: The Nature, Message, and Inspiration of the Bible. The previous eight lessons have helped us understand important truths about God’s Word.

As we begin Lesson 9: God’s Word in Creation and Law, we enter Unit II: Preservation and Dissemination of God’s Word.

In the last lesson, we learned that the Bible speaks to everyone regardless of age, gender, or background. This week’s lesson reveals that God has always desired to make Himself known to humanity. He does this through many means, including the beauty of creation and the laws He gave to guide His people.

May this study deepen our understanding and strengthen our faith in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Lesson Exposition

I. Revelation Through Nature

(Genesis 1:14-18; Psalm 19:1-14; Psalm 104:19-23)

"The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of His hands." — Psalm 19:1

a. God reveals Himself to humanity in many ways, including through dreams, visions, experiences, His laws, and especially through nature (Psalm 19:1-6).

b. Careful observation of the universe shows that the heavens display God’s glory and craftsmanship.

c. Day after day and night after night, creation continuously communicates the greatness of God. Even though nature does not speak with words, its message about God reaches everyone—both believers and unbelievers.

d. In Genesis 1:14-18, God created the sun, moon, and stars with specific purposes. The sun governs the day, the moon governs the night, and the stars help mark times and seasons.

e. According to Psalm 104:19-23, the moon marks seasons while the sun determines the day. The sun rises and sets according to God’s design, showing His control over time and order.

f. Even the cycle of day and night reveals God’s wisdom. When darkness falls, animals become active, and when the sun rises, human activities begin.

g. Every creature and element of creation operates according to God’s appointed time and purpose.

II. Revelation Through God’s Law

(Genesis 2:15-17; Exodus 20:1ff; Exodus 24:12; Habakkuk 2:2)

"Come up to Me on the mountain and stay here, and I will give you tablets of stone with the law and commandments I have written for their instruction." — Exodus 24:12

a. A law is a set of rules that guides behaviour and conduct. After delivering the Israelites from slavery, God gave them laws to guide their worship, behaviour, and daily life.

b. God always provides instructions along with responsibilities. For example, when He placed Adam in the Garden of Eden, He gave him specific commands to follow (Genesis 2:15-17).

c. God wrote the commandments on tablets of stone, demonstrating their importance and permanence (Exodus 31:18).

d. The Ten Commandments were kept in the Ark of the Covenant. The first four commandments focus on loving God, while the remaining six emphasize loving others.

e. The purpose of these laws was for teaching. God instructed Moses to teach the people so they could understand and obey His commands.

f. According to Habakkuk 2:2, God’s messages and visions should be written down to preserve them for future generations. This ensures that God’s truth continues to guide people across generations.

Whenever it appears, people naturally look up to the sky, reminding them of God’s presence. It also appears during the rainy season, demonstrating that God controls time, seasons, and nature.
