Opening Prayer

Father, remove every trace of pride and arrogance in my life that keeps me out of Your divine order.

Esther 1:10–19

Lesson Introduction

Whatever God has entrusted to you—position, beauty, influence, gifts, or opportunities—has a purpose. These blessings must never be abused or misused. Today’s lesson examines the life of Queen Vashti and the consequences of her actions.

Lesson Aim

To help members understand who Vashti was and the consequences of her actions.

Teaching Objectives

By the end of this lesson, members should be able to:

Identify who Queen Vashti was.

Explain the consequences of her actions.

Text Review (Esther 1:10–17)

Everything we have and everything we are should bring glory to the King who gave it to us.

Refusing to honor God with what He has given us can result in loss and His displeasure.

Disobedience carries consequences.

Lesson Outline One: Who Was Queen Vashti?

The wife of King Ahasuerus, ruler of Persia (Esther 1:9–10).

A woman known for her beauty (Esther 1:11).

She refused the king’s command to appear before him (Esther 1:10–12).

She was dethroned as queen (Esther 1:15–21).

She was later replaced by Esther (Esther 2:17).

Lesson Outline Two: Consequences of Vashti’s Action

She was disgraced and dethroned (Esther 1:19).

She was replaced by Esther (Esther 2:17).

Her action was seen as a negative example in the kingdom (Esther 1:16–18).

She lost her position, relevance, and royal dignity.

The beauty once celebrated could no longer secure her throne.

Pride ultimately brought her downfall.

Summary

Disobedience and pride can lead to serious consequences.

Conclusion

For every Vashti who loses her place through disobedience, there is an Esther prepared to take her place. God shows no favoritism when His standards are ignored.

Is there pride in your heart?

Remember, the grace and favor of God in your life are not meant to fuel pride. Examine yourself and avoid actions that could jeopardize your glorious future.

Weekly Activity

Besides Vashti, discuss two other biblical characters who lost their positions due to pride.

Prayer Points

Father, do not replace me in Your glorious end-time plans.

Father, remove every strange lifestyle in me that may provoke Your wrath.

Father, uproot every seed of pride in my life that could cause me to lose my relevance.

Father, let the blessings that cause people to glorify You in my life never be destroyed.

Lord, block every doorway that pride may use to bring shame into my life.
