TOPIC: THE ARMOUR OF LIGHT (1)

MEMORISE

“The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light.”

— Romans 13:12

BIBLE READING

Romans 13:12–14 (KJV)

12 The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light.

13 Let us walk honestly, as in the day; not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and envying.

14 But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof.

MESSAGE

Many believers struggle with inner darkness because their hearts are filled with bitterness, anger, and unresolved pain. Some are offended with God, while others harbour resentment toward spouses, children, parents, or fellow believers. In a world filled with wickedness and injustice, it is easy to allow bitterness to take root. However, instead of giving room to darkness, we must deliberately open our hearts to the light of God. The Word of God is light, and when embraced, it becomes an armour that shields us from darkness.

Today’s memory verse urges us to cast off the works of darkness and put on the armour of light. Light functions as spiritual armour. Just as a soldier needs armour to withstand an enemy’s attacks, the armour of light protects us from arrows of bitterness, hatred, and resentment launched by the enemy. However, to put on this armour, we must first abandon the works of darkness. You cannot overcome the prince of darkness while holding on to dark deeds. Sin remains the greatest work of darkness; therefore, anyone still living in sin must repent, embrace the armour of light, and choose a righteous lifestyle.

Throughout my journey in life and ministry, I have experienced betrayal from many quarters—by those far away and by those very close, by unbelievers and even by some who profess to serve God. Yet, in spite of these painful experiences, I have not lost my joy, nor have I allowed bitterness to harden my heart. I have continued to show kindness, even to those who hurt me, because my heart is guarded by the armour of light, which does not permit darkness to take root.

Beloved, refuse to harbour malice or dwell on past hurts. Scripture reminds us in Ephesians 6:12 that our battle is not against flesh and blood, but against spiritual forces of darkness. The devil seeks to sow seeds of bitterness that will fill our hearts with darkness. Do not give him that opportunity. Instead, put on the armour of light by bringing every thought under the authority of Christ, renouncing sinful habits, and continually meditating on God’s Word. As you do so, your heart will be filled with joy, and you will experience the peace of God that surpasses all understanding.

ACTION POINT

Examine your life today. Cast off every work of darkness and deliberately put on the armour of light.
