LESSON FIFTEEN (15)

TOPIC: VAIN WORSHIP [LIFE, FIGHT & BAD INTENTIONS]

SUNDAY SCHOOL HYMN

1. O Sunday School, on the Lord's day,

O how I love Thee well,

I am happy, it makes me glad

To rejoice at Thy birth.

2. O Sunday School, on the Lord's day,

Thy friendship suits me well,

Both young and old will sing Thy song,

We long for Sunday School.

3. O Sunday School, on the Lord's day,

Christ was Thy first teacher,

The Holy Spirit, great teacher,

Does manifest in thee.

4. O Sunday School, on the Lord's day,

This testimony is sure,

That God, the Father Almighty,

Poured His blessing on Thee

5. O Sunday School, on the Lord's day,

Though the sun be so bright,

Or if the clouds be black with rain,

I'll be in Sunday School.

6. O Sunday School, on the Lord's day

I rejoice to see Thee,

Will thou pass over me today?

Without my being blest?

BIBLE TEXT: Leviticus 19:11, 1 Timothy 6:12

Leviticus 19:11

[11]Ye shall not steal, neither deal falsely, neither lie one to another.

1 Timothy 6:12

[12]Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses.

MEMORY VERSE: 1 Timothy 6:12 "Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses."

LESSON AIM: To gain a deeper understanding of the consequences of vain worship, and trusting God to change from such a life of lies..

INTRODUCTION: Vain worship is about going through the motions without movement, producing no result or change of heart. Mark 7-7-9 Jesus was criticizing the hearts of the Pharisees and Scribes and the way they were living, using ceremonial law to mask their hypocrisy. The issue of vain and empty worship today is about the matter of the heart. As a result of vain and empty worship practices.

STUDY GUIDE:

A. WHAT IS VAIN WORSHIP?

1. Vain worship occurs when we disregard God's instructions and approach Him on our terms rather than His.

2. It's a casual, disrespectful approach.

3. When worship is performed with a disobedient, casual attitude, it not only angers God but makes that worship sinful and unacceptable.

4. The people of Malachi's time treated worship lightly, dishonoring God by doing whatever they wanted instead of respecting His commands.

5. The same error is present today when worship focuses on pleasing people rather than following God's instructions.

6. A stark reminder of the seriousness of worship is found in Leviticus 10:1-7.

7. Aaron's sons, Nadab and Abihu, offered "unauthorized fire" before God, ignoring His commands, and were struck down for their irreverence. Leviticus 10:3

B. WHEN WORSHIP GOES WRONG

1. Vain worship happens when we pretend to worship God, but our hearts are not sincere (Matthew 15.8-9)

2. God values truth, honesty, and a pure heart more than outward actions. (1 Samuel 16-7)

3. Worship should be rooted in love for God, not for attention or personal gain. (Proverbs 12:22)

4. Lies, pride, or bad intentions make worship empty and offensive to God. (Acts 5:1-11)

5. God sees through all pretense, our worship must come from a real relationship with Him. (Matthew 15:8-9)

CONCLUSION: The hypocrisy of the Pharisees and the scribes explains the digression of God's people from true worship and service to God into vain worship (Matthew 23:14-16)

LIFE APPLICATION CLASS DISCUSSION

1. What does it mean to worship in vain?

2. How can someone's worship look good on the outside but be wrong on the inside?

3. Why does God care more about the heart than the performance?

4. How can we check our hearts before worshiping?

5. What does the story of Ananias and Sapphira teach us about God and worship?

AFFIRMATION/PRAYER: Lord! Please help me to worship you wholeheartedly in Jesus' name, Amen
