LESSON AIM & OBJECTIVES: To prepare teens to thrive in a digital world, equipping them with essential skills and knowledge for success in various aspects of their lives. Through the lesson, students should be able to: 

1. Mention the key uses of technology in our modern society. 

2. State the negative effects of technology on individuals and society. 


INTRODUCTION: Technology can be defined as tools, devices, and gadgets that people create to help them do things more easily or to have fun. It includes things like computers, tablets, smartphones, video games, robots, and other electronic devices. Essentially, technology is anything made by people that uses electricity or other power sources to do tasks or provide entertainment. Daniel 12:4; Jeremiah 10:12.

A. USES OF TECHNOLOGY These are some of the key uses of technology include: 

1. Communication: Technology facilitates communication through various means such as email, instant messaging, social media platforms, video conferencing, and Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) services. 

2. Education: Technology is widely used in education, providing access to online learning resources, virtual classrooms, educational apps, digital textbooks, and interactive multimedia content. 

3. Information Access: The internet serves as a vast repository of information, allowing individuals to search for and access a wide range of content on virtually any topic. 

4. Entertainment: Technology offers numerous forms of entertainment, including streaming services for movies, TV shows, music, and gaming platforms for video games. 

5. Work and Business: Technology plays a crucial role in the workplace, enabling tasks such as data processing, communication, collaboration, project management, and automation of business processes.

6. Healthcare: Technology is revolutionizing healthcare with innovations such as electronic health records, telemedicine, medical imaging technologies, wearable health devices, and healthcare apps. 

7. Transportation: Technology has transformed transportation with advancements such as GPS navigation systems, ride-sharing apps, electric vehicles, autonomous vehicles, and traffic management systems.

1. Social Isolation: Excessive use of technology, particularly social media, can lead to social isolation and a decline in face-to-face interactions, affecting the quality of relationships and increasing feelings of loneliness. 

2. Decreased Physical Activity: Sedentary behaviors associated with prolonged screen time, such as sitting for extended periods while using devices, can contribute to a decrease in physical activity levels, leading to health issues like obesity and cardiovascular disease. 

3. Addiction: Technology addiction, including addiction to smartphones, social media, video games, and internet use, can negatively impact mental health, productivity, relationships, and overall well-being. 

4. Cyber Bullying: The anonymity and accessibility of online platforms can facilitate cyber bullying, harassment, and online abuse, causing emotional distress, anxiety, and depression among victims. 

5. Information Overload: The abundance of information available online can lead to information overload, making it challenging for individuals to filter and evaluate the credibility and relevance of information, leading to confusion and cognitive overload.

6. Privacy Concerns: Technology raises concerns about privacy and data security, as personal information collected online can be exploited for surveillance, identity theft, targeted advertising, and other malicious purposes.

These negative effects highlight the importance of mindful and balanced use of technology.
