LESSON 40

TOPIC: COMPANIONSHIP

OPENING PRAYER: Father, please preserve every marriage from collapse and restore every home passing through storms and challenges.

PREVIOUS KNOWLEDGE: Last week's meeting was devoted to the quarterly review, fellowship interaction, and neighborhood evangelism.

MEMORY VERSE: "And the LORD God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him." — Genesis 2:18

BIBLE TEXT: GENESIS 2:15-18

"And the LORD God took the man and put him into the Garden of Eden to cultivate and keep it. The LORD God commanded the man, saying, 'You may freely eat from every tree of the garden, but from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for on the day you eat from it, you will certainly die.' Then the LORD God said, 'It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him.'"

LESSON INTRODUCTION

Marriage is one of God's greatest gifts to humanity, yet many people enter it without a proper understanding of its purpose and responsibilities. Wrong motives for marriage have led many into emotional, financial, spiritual, and family crises. Although God declared that it is not good for man to be alone, many people still experience loneliness even within marriage. May God grant us a deeper understanding of His purpose for marriage so that we may enjoy the joy, peace, and fulfillment it is designed to bring.

LESSON AIM

To help members understand God's purpose for marriage.

TEACHING OBJECTIVES

At the end of this lesson, members should be able to:

• Define marriage according to God's design. • Identify common misconceptions about marriage. • Understand the importance of companionship in marriage. • Appreciate God's purpose for establishing marriage.

TEXT REVIEW: GENESIS 2:15-18

• God first gave Adam the responsibility of tending and caring for the Garden of Eden. • God instructed Adam to avoid anything that would lead to destruction. • After giving him purpose and responsibility, God provided companionship for him.

LESSON OUTLINE ONE

WHAT IS MARRIAGE AND WHY DID GOD INSTITUTE IT?

Before God provided companionship for Adam, He entrusted him with work and responsibility. This teaches that marriage should not be entered into carelessly. Financial responsibility, purpose, and maturity are important preparations for marriage.

Marriage can be defined as the lifelong union of one man and one woman becoming one flesh according to God's design.

Why Marriage?

Companionship God observed that Adam was alone and declared that it was not good for him to remain so. Marriage provides a suitable companion with whom life can be shared.

Building a Family Many people marry because they desire to establish a loving and stable family.

Mutual Support and Security Marriage offers emotional, spiritual, and practical support, creating a safe environment for growth and partnership.

Raising Godly Children Marriage provides a foundation for nurturing children in the fear and knowledge of God.

Strengthening Society Strong marriages contribute to stable families and healthier communities.

Spiritual Growth Marriage helps couples grow together in Christ, reflecting His love and character to the world.

Discussion Questions

• Do you genuinely enjoy spending time with your spouse? • Do you prefer the company of your spouse over that of others? • How can couples strengthen companionship in their marriage?

SUMMARY

God's purpose for marriage is to reflect His love and faithfulness to a watching world through godly companionship and unity.

CONCLUSION

When believers understand God's purpose and design for marriage, they build stronger homes, enjoy healthier relationships, grow spiritually together, and bring glory to God.

Friday: Remember that every potential spouse is a work in progress; be realistic and prayerful when considering qualities.
