Message

Many years ago, shortly after I became born again, there was a widespread belief among Christians that living in poverty was a sign of true spirituality. Many sincere believers thought that material prosperity and godliness could not coexist.

This mindset was so deeply rooted that when I was gifted a Mercedes-Benz, I left it parked in my garage for several months without using it. I feared that fellow believers might think I had become worldly if they saw me driving such an expensive car. Eventually, the Lord spoke to me and revealed that by refusing to use the gift, I was hindering the blessing of the person who had given it.

Reluctantly, I drove the car once, but I felt uncomfortable throughout the experience. Afterwards, I asked God for permission to sell it, and He allowed me to do so. Not long after, someone presented me with an even more luxurious limousine. At that point, I realised just how strongly many Christians associated poverty with holiness.

Sadly, this misunderstanding allowed the enemy to rob many believers of opportunities to influence society. While Christians avoided prosperity, others took control of businesses, industries, and economies, leaving many believers dependent on systems governed by people who did not share their values.

The truth is that poverty is not a virtue. Just as wealth can become a stumbling block when misused, poverty can also have devastating consequences. It has discouraged many young people from embracing the faith of their parents because of the hardships they witnessed growing up. It has also caused some unbelievers to wrongly conclude that serving God leads only to lack and suffering.

In today's Bible passage, a faithful servant of God died and left his family burdened with debt. His widow faced the heartbreaking possibility of losing her sons to slavery. However, through God's intervention and the prophetic instruction of Elisha, her situation changed completely. What seemed like a hopeless condition became a testimony of divine provision and abundance.

God is the Owner of all things. The silver and the gold belong to Him, and He delights in blessing His children. He gives His people the ability to create wealth and desires that they prosper in every area of life, just as their souls prosper spiritually.

As a believer, do not embrace poverty as though it were a mark of holiness. Pursue God wholeheartedly, trust Him for His provision, and remain a faithful steward of every blessing He places in your hands.

There is nothing godly about poverty. God's desire is for His children to prosper spiritually, physically, and materially according to His will.
