THE LORD JESUS AFFIRMED HIS DEITY

“Then came the Jews round about him, and said unto him, How long dost thou make us to doubt? If thou be the Christ, tell us plainly. Jesus answered them, I told you, and ye believed not…”

— John 10:24–25

There are those who claim that Jesus never said He was the Christ or the Son of God, and therefore question why Christians proclaim His deity. Such arguments only reveal a lack of understanding of Scripture. Anyone who truly studies the Bible will see that Jesus clearly and repeatedly affirmed who He was.

In our theme scripture, the Jews confronted Jesus, demanding that He plainly state whether He was the Christ. His response was direct and unmistakable: “I told you, and you did not believe.” He went on to explain that His works—done in His Father’s name—were undeniable evidence of His identity. In other words, His miracles and divine acts testified clearly that He was indeed the Christ.

Jesus left no room for doubt concerning His deity. 

In verses 27–30, He made even bolder declarations: “My sheep hear my voice… I give unto them eternal life… I and my Father are one.” These are not the words of an ordinary man. Only God can give eternal life, and Jesus does so because He is Himself the true God and eternal life, as confirmed in 1 John 5:20. Hallelujah!

When Jesus declared, “I and my Father are one” (John 10:30), the Jews immediately understood the weight of His words. They took up stones to kill Him, accusing Him of making Himself equal with God. Their reaction proved that Jesus’ claim was clear. He openly affirmed that He was the Christ, the Son of God, God manifested in human flesh.

Jesus further explained this truth in John 5:26: “For as the Father hath life in himself; so hath he given to the Son to have life in himself.” This explains why He has the authority to give eternal life to all who believe in Him. He possesses life in Himself, just as the Father does. He is one with God and co-equal with Him.

Therefore, when we preach Jesus, believe in Him, and proclaim His Name, we are not dealing with a mere man. Titus 2:13 describes Him as “the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ.” Jesus is God. Hallelujah!

Prayer / Confession

Dear Father, I thank You for the revelation of Jesus Christ—God in human form, the Word made flesh. I boldly declare that He is the Christ, the true God, and eternal life. I walk in the confidence, authority, and power of His Name and Lordship, proclaiming His divinity and reign to the nations. Through me, His truth prevails and His glory is revealed, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
