(The Parable of the Prodigal Son)

Message

Today’s Bible reading tells the story of a young man who lived comfortably in his father’s house, lacking nothing. However, he became dissatisfied—most likely because he began listening to the wrong voices. Discontent soon led him to demand his inheritance prematurely. When people listen to the wrong voices, they often make wrong decisions. This is why it is vital to always listen to God’s voice.

To understand how God speaks and what He says, we must study and meditate on His Word. Only those who consistently immerse themselves in God’s Word can escape the deception prevalent in these end times.

When the prodigal son left his father’s house, his words were, “Father, give me…” That request took him far away from his father’s presence. Though he appeared to enjoy life for a short while, his pleasure was temporary. Soon, he lost everything and suffered greatly in a strange land.

Thankfully, the young man came to his senses and realized an important truth—he could not make himself. He needed his father to succeed in life. He had been in a hurry to arrive at his destination, but he skipped the necessary process. God is a God of process, and He uses it to shape His children into who He wants them to become.

Just like food being prepared by a chef, the process is often uncomfortable and unattractive. Heat is unpleasant, but ingredients that endure it become fit for a king’s table. Those that avoid the fire often end up discarded or wasted.

When God was making Moses, He allowed him to spend forty years in the desert tending his father-in-law’s sheep (Exodus 3:1). This was far from pleasant for someone raised in a palace, yet the process shaped him into a strong and humble leader capable of confronting Pharaoh, the most powerful ruler of his time.

Jesus also called His disciples so that He could make them (Mark 1:17). When He finished working on them, the Pharisees were astonished. Though the disciples were unlearned, they had become men of great impact (Acts 4:13).

Beloved, surrender yourself completely to God and allow Him to make you. When He is done, your life will become a testimony and a wonder to your family, friends, and the world at large.
