Bible Reading: Psalm 103:8–13

The Lord is merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in mercy.

He will not always strive with us, nor will He keep His anger forever.

He has not dealt with us according to our sins, nor punished us according to our iniquities.

For as the heavens are high above the earth, so great is His mercy toward those who fear Him.

As far as the east is from the west, so far has He removed our transgressions from us.

As a father pities his children, so the Lord pities those who fear Him.

Message

Several years ago, a devoted Muslim attended one of our programmes, heard the gospel, and gave his life to Christ. He was filled with joy, and we rejoiced together. Three days later, he returned and asked me, “Are you sure Jesus can forgive all sins?” I confidently answered, “Yes.”

He responded, “You don’t know everything I’ve done. My sins are too many and too terrible. I don’t think Jesus can forgive them all.” I asked him if he had truly surrendered his life to Christ, and when he said yes, I assured him, “Then go home rejoicing. Jesus has forgiven you completely.”

Yet, three days later, he came back again, burdened with doubt. This time, he began to list the terrible sins he had committed. I reminded him that when anyone gives their life to Christ, God grants them a brand-new beginning. Still, he struggled to believe that some sins were not beyond forgiveness.

Finally, he said, “If Jesus can forgive this last sin I’m about to mention, then I will never doubt again. I once needed a human heart to prepare a charm. When a young relative died, I went to his grave at night, exhumed the body, and removed his heart. Can Jesus forgive that?”

I opened my Bible and showed him 1 John 1:7, which says, “…and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.” I then asked him, “What does ‘all’ mean?” After a moment, he replied, “I believe ‘all’ means all.” I confirmed, “That is exactly right. The moment you genuinely give your life to Jesus, God forgives every sin—no matter how many or how terrible they may seem. No sin is too great for God’s mercy.”

David understood the boundless nature of God’s forgiveness, which is why he declared in Psalm 103:12 that God removes our sins as far as the east is from the west. Whenever David repented sincerely, God forgave him completely. What God desires from us whenever we fall into sin is genuine repentance.

Beloved, when you truly repent, God is faithful and just to forgive you (1 John 1:9). True repentance results in a transformed life—one that turns away from sin. Although God’s mercy has no limits, His forgiveness should always produce a changed heart and a renewed walk with Him.
