Message

One afternoon in a café, I noticed a toddler sitting with her parents at a nearby table. As the adults chatted with friends, a pigeon flew inside and began pecking at crumbs on the floor. The little girl, filled with excitement, squealed with delight and tried to draw the adults’ attention. Sadly, they never noticed what had captivated her—they simply smiled and continued their conversation.

In a similar way, Jesus once sent His disciples out on a preaching mission, and the results were remarkable (Luke 10:17). In response, Jesus prayed, “I praise you, Father, because you have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children” (v. 21). Here, “little children” refers not to age but to humility and openness of heart. Ordinary people—often labeled as “sinners”—embraced the gospel, while the educated religious leaders rejected it (7:29–34).

Though God chooses how and to whom He reveals Himself, Jesus willingly explained more about the kingdom to those who genuinely sought understanding (see Matthew 13:36). The religious leaders failed to recognize who Jesus truly was because they had no desire to know Him.

Just as the toddler in the café saw something wonderful that others missed, we too can miss what God is revealing if we are distracted, proud, or unwilling to seek deeper understanding. May we remain humble, attentive, and eager to see all that God desires to show us about Himself.

What first opened your eyes and heart to the gospel?

Prayer:

Father God, please open my eyes to see all that You want to reveal to me about Yourself and the gospel.

Insight for Today

Although the word Trinity does not appear in Scripture, Luke 10 clearly reveals God’s triune nature. Jesus, filled with joy through the Holy Spirit, praises the Father—the Lord of heaven and earth (v. 21). The Son carries out the Father’s will through the power of the Spirit.

Jesus also says, “All things have been committed to me by my Father. No one knows who the Son is except the Father” (v. 22). While the disciples knew Jesus, He was speaking of complete and perfect knowledge. He understood that they were in danger of focusing more on the miracles they performed than on what truly mattered (v. 17). So He redirected their attention: “Rejoice that your names are written in heaven” (v. 20).

Step by step, Jesus revealed Himself to His followers. May we also keep our eyes open and our hearts receptive to what God desires to reveal about Himself.
