TOPIC: YOUR FRUIT, NOT YOUR SEED ALONE

MEMORISE

“Honour the LORD with thy substance, and with the firstfruits of all thine increase.”

— Proverbs 3:9

BIBLE READING : Deuteronomy 26:1–11

(Summary of the passage)

Moses instructed the children of Israel that when they entered the Promised Land and began to enjoy its abundance, they were to bring the firstfruits of their harvest to the Lord. This act was to be accompanied by thanksgiving, remembrance of God’s mighty deliverance from Egypt, and joyful worship before Him. Their giving was both an acknowledgment of God’s faithfulness and an expression of gratitude for His blessings.

EXPOSITION

Whenever we give to God, we are simply returning a portion of what He has graciously provided for us (2 Corinthians 9:7). Sadly, many believers still struggle with giving—whether tithes, offerings, or other forms of support for God’s work—thereby revealing a spirit of reluctance or stinginess (Malachi 3:8–10). Are you among those who grumble whenever a call for giving is made in the church? Such an attitude can hinder one’s experience of God’s overflowing blessings (Luke 6:38).

God desires that our giving be a sincere expression of gratitude and appreciation for His goodness. The story of the ten lepers reminds us that while many receive blessings, only a few return to give thanks (Luke 17:12–19). The Lord does not ask for seeds alone; He also desires the fruits of our lives—our praise, obedience, service, and substance (Isaiah 57:19; Hebrews 13:15). Therefore, do not limit your giving to occasional sowing. Offer God the first, the middle, and the last fruits of all He has entrusted to you.

PRAYER POINTS

Bless the Lord, the Creator of seeds, fruits, harvests, and seasons.

Ask God for forgiveness for any failure or reluctance in giving your resources to His work.

Pray for CAC Akinyele Region—our father in the Lord, the Regional Superintendent, and all officers at various levels, as the Spirit of God leads.

SUGGESTED HYMN FOR TODAY

CAC GHB 655 (7.7.7.7.D)

1. Come, ye thankful people, come,

Raise the song of harvest home;

All is safely gathered in,

Ere the winter storms begin;

God our Maker doth provide

For our wants to be supplied;

Come to God’s own temple, come,

Raise the song of harvest home!

2. We ourselves are God’s own field,

Fruit unto His praise to yield;

Wheat and tares together sown,

Unto joy or sorrow grown;

First the blade, and then the ear,

Then the full corn shall appear;

Grant, O harvest Lord, that we

Wholesome grain and pure may be.

3. For the Lord our God shall come,

And shall take His harvest home;

From His field shall in that day

All offences purge away;

Give His angels charge at last

In the fire the tares to cast;

But the fruitful ears to store

In His garner evermore.

4. Then, thou church triumphant, come,

Raise the song of harvest home;

All are safely gathered in,

Free from sorrow, free from sin;

There forever purified,

In God’s garner to abide;

Come, ten thousand angels, come,

Raise the glorious harvest home!

Amen.
