TOPIC: The Armour of Light II

MEMORISE

Not rendering evil for evil, or railing for railing: but contrariwise blessing; knowing that ye are thereunto called, that ye should inherit a blessing.

BIBLE READING: Romans 13:12–14 (KJV)

12 The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light.

13 Let us walk honestly, as in the day; not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and envying.

14 But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof.

MESSAGE

Yesterday, we learned the importance of opening our hearts to the light of God rather than allowing bitterness to take root. Whenever you respond to offence with anger and resentment, you unknowingly expose yourself to spiritual attacks.

Every hurt, offence, or betrayal you face is often aimed at your heart. The enemy seeks to plant bitterness within you so that his attacks can find a place to settle. Many times, when Satan’s agents fail to harm a believer directly, they provoke anger instead. Once bitterness takes hold, their attacks become effective. This is why wearing the armour of light is vital—it guards your heart and keeps you spiritually secure.

Anyone the devil cannot make angry or bitter is someone he has already lost the battle to. The Bible tells us in 1 Samuel 18:14 that David behaved himself wisely. He guarded his heart carefully, even when King Saul pursued him with the intent to kill. In 1 Samuel 24:2–7, David had the opportunity to kill Saul, yet he chose restraint, cutting only a piece of Saul’s robe. Even then, his conscience troubled him. This reveals a man whose armour of light remained intact. As a result, David eventually became king, just as God had planned. Had he given in to bitterness or revenge, he might have derailed his destiny.

If you desire God’s plans for your life to be fulfilled, you must not allow bitterness to take root in your heart. Do not give the devil any opportunity to tamper with your destiny. Some believers choose not to retaliate when hurt, but instead respond with love and blessings. Though the world may call them foolish, they understand spiritual wisdom. They protect their hearts because they value their glorious future in God.

Beloved, refuse to give the devil any foothold in your life. Keep your armour of light strong and intact so you can fulfil your God-given purpose.

KEY POINT

Guard your heart against bitterness so you do not miss the glorious future God has prepared for you.
