TOPIC: GOD CAN OVERRULE
HOUSE FELLOWSHIP ANTHEM
I love this family of God,
So closely knitted into one;
They have taken me into their arms,
And I am glad to be
A part of this great family.
I bless this family of God,
So richly prospered by the Lord;
They have taken me into their arms,
And I am glad to be
A part of this great family.
I know this family of God,
Deeply rooted in the Word;
They have taken me into their arms,
And I am glad to be
A part of this great family.
I see this family of God,
Highly lifted above all;
They have taken me into their arms,
And I am glad to be
A part of this great family.
Come and join this family of God,
Highly favoured by the Lord;
They have taken me into their arms,
And I am glad to be
A part of this great family.
OPENING PRAYER
Father, please overrule every demonic mandate working against my glory.
PREVIOUS KNOWLEDGE
Leaders should briefly remind members about the danger of negative influence and the need to guard their spiritual lives.
MEMORY VERSE
“I will overturn, overturn, overturn it; and it shall be no more, until He comes whose right it is, and I will give it to Him.”
— Ezekiel 21:27
BIBLE TEXT
1 Kings 17:4
“And it shall be, that you shall drink from the brook; and I have commanded the ravens to feed you there.”
LESSON INTRODUCTION
To overturn means to overthrow an evil decree or unlawful authority until it is restored to its rightful owner. According to our memory verse, God Himself promises to overturn every wrongful mandate until justice is established. Our God is a specialist in restoring what belongs to His children by withdrawing it from illegal occupiers.
Although Josiah ascended the throne at a young age, God overturned the evil reign of Queen Athaliah to establish His divine purpose. This shows that no matter what situation you are facing, God is able to effect a positive turnaround and enthrone you in your rightful place.
LESSON AIM
To help members understand that God can do anything necessary to bring His children’s dreams and destinies to fulfillment.
TEACHING OBJECTIVES
By the end of this lesson, members should understand that:
God can break protocols to fulfill His purpose.
God is sovereign—the supreme ruler with unquestionable authority.
TEXT REVIEW: 1 Kings 17:4
From this passage, we learn that:
God has the authority to use anything or anyone to establish His counsel.
God’s ways are mysterious, unsearchable, and beyond human reasoning.
No one should be underestimated; anyone can be a divine instrument, just as ravens were used to feed Elijah.
LESSON OUTLINE ONE
GOD CAN OVERTURN LIMITATIONS
Limitation refers to a state of restriction—being hindered from reaching one’s potential, goals, or destiny. God has the power to break every barrier, restriction, and boundary placed on His children. The Bible is filled with examples of individuals who overcame limitations through divine intervention:
a. Jacob – God overturned Laban’s manipulation and prospered Jacob (Genesis 30:30–43).
b. Esther and Mordecai – God repositioned them for deliverance and honour (Esther 2:16–17; 4:14).
c. Gideon – God used a weak man to defeat a mighty enemy (Judges 6:12–16).
d. David – God enabled a shepherd boy to defeat Goliath with a stone (1 Samuel 17).
e. The Four Lepers – What an army could not do, God did through them (2 Kings 7).
f. The Woman with the Issue of Blood – She broke through societal and physical limitations to receive healing (Mark 5:25–34).
LESSON OUTLINE TWO
GOD IS SOVEREIGN
To overturn limitations and break barriers, one must depend on the sovereign power of God.
No one prevails by personal strength alone (1 Samuel 2:9).
Without God, nothing can be achieved (John 15:5).
All things are possible through God’s power (Philippians 4:13).
Every limitation bows before His authority (Exodus 14:13–14).
God responds to words spoken in faith (Numbers 14:28).
God multiplies little resources into abundance (2 Kings 4:42–44).
God can rewrite destinies—Peter’s death sentence was cancelled by divine intervention (Acts 12).
SUMMARY
God has the absolute right to use anything or anyone to establish His divine counsel.
CONCLUSION
The Bible says that those who know their God shall be strong and do great exploits (Daniel 11:32b). Limitations standing against your ordained testimony and glory can be broken when you truly know who your God is. David subdued Goliath because he knew his God. The Sovereign God can turn every situation in your favour, just as He changed the story of the woman who suffered for years and redirected Jesus’ mission to meet her need (Mark 5:25–32; Luke 7:11–15).
WEEKLY ACTIVITY
Mention five biblical characters who overcame limitations on their path to greatness.
PRAYER POINTS
Father, bring me out of every state of limitation.
Father, destroy every power assigned to stop me from reaching my destiny.
Every spirit working against my growth and progress, die by fire.
I break every limitation and restriction standing against my greatness.
Every evil boundary built against my success, scatter by fire.
