SUNDAY, 5TH OF OCTOBER, 2025

LESSON FIVE (5)

TOPIC: WORSHIP GOD THE HOLY SPIRIT 

SUNDAY SCHOOL HYMN

1. O Sunday School, on the Lord's day,

O how I love Thee well,

I am happy, it makes me glad

To rejoice at Thy birth.

BIBLE TEXT: Isaiah 11:2

And the spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD; 

Psalms 51:11

Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy holy spirit from me.

MEMORY VERSE: JOHN 14:26, "But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you". 

LESSON AIM: The Students will know who the Holy Spirit is, and His role in worshipping God in Spirit and truth. 

INTRODUCTION: Worshipping God in the spirit and truth means worshipping from the heart, with sincerity and gratitude. The Holy Spirit invites believers to worship God with their whole hearts. 

LESSON GUIDE: 

A. WHO IS THE HOLY SPIRIT? 

1. The Holy Spirit is the third person in the Trinity. He is also our Comforter. 

2. He is our teacher. 

3. He is our Counselor and guide. 

4. He is the revealer of deep and secret things of God. 

5. He is the fourth man in the fire. 

6. He is our defender. 

7. He is our secret place with God [Psalm 91]. 

B. HOW TO WORSHIP IN SPIRIT AND IN TRUTH? 

1. Worshiping with a pure and open heart. (Ps. 24:3-4) 

2. Being a lover of God's presence. (Ps. 16:11) 

3. Through a sincere and heartfelt devotion to God. (Ps. 63:1, Matt.6:33) 

4. Understanding God's Truth. (John 16:13) 

5. Obedience to God's word. (James 1:22-25) 

6. Through praise and Thanksgiving. (Ps. 100:4-5) 

7. Through prayer. (Phill.4:6-7)

C. UNDERSTAND THE ROLE OF THE HOLY SPIRIT IN WORSHIP 

1. The Holy Spirit is our Comforter. (John 14:26) 

2. He is our Counselor. (Isa. 9:6) 

3. He is our teacher. (John 16:13) 

4. The Holy Spirit helps and empowers us to worship. (Rom.8:26-27, Luke 24:49) 

5. The Holy Spirit helps in convicting of sin, and purifying of hearts. (John 16:8) 

6. The Holy Spirit acts as a guide during worship, leading the congregation to focus on Jesus and the truths of the Gospel. (John 16:13) 

7. The Holy Spirit provides various gifts to individuals within the congregation, such as prophecy, teaching, healing, and speaking in tongues, enriching the worship experience. (1 Corinth. 12:7-11) 

8. The Holy Spirit helps believers understand the deeper meaning of scripture and apply it to their lives during worship. (1 Corinth. 2:10-11). 

CONCLUSION: The Holy Spirit helps to position and align our hearts to God in worship. He is our secret place with God [Psalm 91]. Worshiping the Holy Spirit must be done with a pure, open heart void of sin and distractions. You must also love to dwell in his presence at all times.
