MEMORY SCRIPTURE

Jesus Christ is the central theme of the Bible. He fulfils its promises and unites both the Old and New Testaments in God’s redemptive plan.

BRIEF COMMENT

The Bible tells one unified story—God’s plan for humanity—with Jesus Christ at its centre. Every message of Scripture points to Him as the fulfilment of God’s promises, the ultimate Redeemer, and the eternal King (Jn. 1:4; Col. 2:20).

In Luke 24:27, Jesus Himself reveals that He is the key to understanding the Scriptures. As He walked with the two disciples on the road to Emmaus, He explained how Moses and the Prophets spoke concerning Him. He uncovered the prophecies, symbols, and promises that all find their fulfilment in His life, death, and resurrection.

Only Jesus—the central Figure of the Bible—can fully reveal God’s intention in inspiring the Scriptures. Therefore, our understanding of the Bible must always align with Him.

Without Jesus, the Bible would be only a collection of stories. He is its heart and the fulfilment of God’s promises.

When we recognise Jesus as the centre of Scripture, we better understand God’s plan, grow in faith, and live with purpose and passion.

AIM

To help learners understand that Jesus Christ is the central Figure who connects every story, prophecy, and promise in the Bible, fulfilling God’s plan of salvation.

OBJECTIVES

By the end of this lesson, learners should be able to:

i. Show that every biblical story, prophecy, and promise points to Jesus Christ;

ii. Explain how Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection reveal God’s plan of salvation;

iii. Defend the truth that without Jesus, the Bible has no true meaning.

INTRODUCTION

In the previous lesson, we learned about the origin and inspiration of the Bible. We saw that Scripture is God-breathed—given through the Holy Spirit—not a product of human ideas. This divine inspiration makes the Bible living, powerful, and able to reach deep into the human heart.

Today’s lesson, “Jesus: The Centre of the Bible,” builds on that foundation. It highlights Jesus’ role in both the Old and New Testaments and helps us see how all of Scripture points to Him. May God open our eyes to see Christ clearly in every part of His Word. Amen.

LESSON EXPOSITION

I. JESUS REVEALED IN THE OLD TESTAMENT

(Luke 24:44–47; Galatians 4:4)

“All things must be fulfilled which were written in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms concerning Me.” — Luke 24:44

a) Long before Jesus appeared physically, the Old Testament contained prophecies and promises concerning His birth, ministry, suffering, death, and resurrection.

b) Jesus explained to His disciples that the Law, the Prophets, and the Psalms all spoke about Him.

c) His coming fulfilled what was spoken by the prophets, particularly David (Acts 2:25).

d) Every section of Scripture points to Christ and centres on Him (Deut. 18:15–18; Isa. 9:6–7; Jer. 23:5–6; Acts 10:43).

e) The Scriptures reveal who Christ is—His authority in heaven and on earth (Ps. 2:7; Isa. 53:5–6; Matt. 3:17; Col. 1:15–20; Heb. 1:1–3; Rev. 21:6).

f) Many prophets spoke by the inspiration of the Holy Spirit without fully understanding how their words would be fulfilled.

g) Jesus opened the disciples’ understanding so they could comprehend the Scriptures, removing doubt and preparing them to be witnesses (Ps. 119:18; Phil. 3:10).

h) Effective witnessing comes from a true understanding of what the Bible teaches about Jesus and applying it to daily life.

II. JESUS MANIFESTED IN THE NEW TESTAMENT

(Acts 2:22–26)

“Jesus of Nazareth, a Man attested by God to you by miracles, wonders, and signs…” — Acts 2:22

a) At God’s appointed time, Jesus came in human form to fulfil every prophecy and promise (Gal. 4:4).

b) Peter’s sermon boldly declared Jesus’ earthly life, crucifixion, and resurrection (Acts 2:22–23).

c) Jesus was not a myth or fictional character; He lived, related with people, suffered, died, and rose again.

d) His divine mission was confirmed by miracles, wonders, and signs (Jn. 3:2; Acts 10:38; Lk. 4:18–21).

e) Jesus’ crucifixion was part of God’s predetermined plan and foreknowledge (Isa. 53:10; Acts 4:27–28).

f) Through Christ’s coming, believers receive joy, hope, and eternal life with God.

LESSONS DERIVED

Jesus fulfilled all Scriptures written about Him, strengthening our faith and preparing us for His second coming.

While many in the Old Testament longed to see Christ, we have the privilege of knowing Him—let us not take it for granted.

LIFE APPLICATION

Beatrice, a young professional, struggled with purpose despite growing up in a Christian home. Over time, she questioned the relevance of the Bible. One day, while reading 2 Timothy 3:16, she realised that Scripture is God-inspired. As she studied the Bible with renewed understanding, she found wisdom and direction for her life. Through consistent devotion and fellowship, God’s Word transformed her decisions, relationships, and purpose.

Like Beatrice, many people discover the Bible’s power only when they truly experience it. Allow God’s Word to guide you daily—it shapes character and equips you for every good work.

CONCLUSION
