TOPIC: TOO BIG FOR CORRECTION? (II)
MEMORISE
A scoffer does not love one who corrects him,
Nor will he go to the wise.
— Proverbs 15:12
READING
Proverbs 15:12; Hebrews 12:6
Proverbs 15:12:
A scoffer does not love one who corrects him, nor will he go to the wise.
Hebrews 12:6:
For whom the Lord loves He chastens, and scourges every son whom He receives.
EXPOSITION
It is often tempting to believe that we are too important, too experienced, or too established to accept correction. However, Scripture teaches that a heart willing to receive correction is essential for true growth and maturity. Proverbs 15:12 warns that a scoffer—or mocker—despises correction and avoids the counsel of the wise. Such an attitude inevitably leads to stagnation and eventual failure.
The apostle Paul cautions us in 1 Corinthians 10:12 that anyone who thinks he is standing firm should take heed lest he fall. This is a call to humility—an acknowledgement that no one is beyond the need for guidance, instruction, or correction. Hebrews 12:6 further reveals that God’s correction is an expression of His love. Divine discipline is not rejection but evidence of sonship and care.
Though correction may be uncomfortable, it is necessary for both spiritual and personal development. Just as a skilled craftsman refines his work through careful adjustments, God uses correction to shape, refine, and perfect us. When we accept correction with humility, we grow stronger, wiser, and more Christlike.
May we therefore embrace correction as a mark of God’s loving care and an opportunity to become better vessels in His hands.
PRAYER POINTS
Ask God for a humble heart that willingly accepts correction and seeks His wisdom for growth in the Lord.
Pray for grace to remain open to godly counsel, instruction, and feedback from God and others.
Pray that every correction you receive will produce positive transformation in your life and work.
SUGGESTED HYMN FOR TODAY
CACGHB 398 (7.7.7.7 & Refrain)
1. Sinners Jesus will receive;
Sound this word of grace to all,
Who the heavenly pathway leave,
All who linger, all who fall!
Chorus:
Sing it o’er and o’er again;
Christ receiveth sinful men;
Make the message clear and plain;
Christ receiveth sinful men.
2. Come, and He will give you rest;
Trust Him, for His word is plain;
He will take the sinfulest;
Christ receiveth sinful men.
3. Now my heart condemns me not,
Pure before the law I stand;
He who cleansed me from all spot,
Satisfied its last demand.
4. Christ receiveth sinful men,
Even me with all my sin;
Purged from every spot and stain,
Heaven with Him I enter in.
Amen.
