TOPIC: TOO BIG FOR CORRECTION? (I)
MEMORISE
Therefore let him who thinks he stands take heed lest he fall.
(1 Corinthians 10:12)
READ: 1 Corinthians 10:12
[12] Therefore let him who thinks he stands take heed lest he fall.
EXPOSITION
In both life and faith, overconfidence can quietly creep in. At times, we may feel spiritually secure and begin to assume that failure or temptation no longer applies to us. However, God’s Word cautions us to remain watchful. According to 1 Corinthians 10:12, even when we believe we are standing strong, vigilance is still required. Overconfidence often leads to complacency, and complacency opens the door to spiritual vulnerability.
Apostle Paul’s warning highlights the importance of humility and continual self-examination. When we grow too comfortable or feel we have “arrived” spiritually, we may forget how essential it is to depend daily on God’s grace and strength. Just as a solid-looking structure can collapse under unexpected pressure, so can our spiritual lives fail if we neglect constant reliance on God.
This verse therefore calls us to humility—acknowledging our weaknesses and recognising that no one is beyond error. As we accept our ongoing need for spiritual growth and divine guidance, we align ourselves more closely with God’s will and guard our hearts against potential downfall.
PRAYER POINTS
Pray for a humble heart that continually recognises its dependence on God for strength and direction.
Ask the Holy Spirit to help you remain alert, guarding against spiritual complacency and overconfidence.
Pray that God will advance the CAC Good Women’s Association—strengthening the chairperson and all officers at every level, in Jesus’ name.
SUGGESTED HYMN FOR TODAY
CACGHB: 816
10 10 10 7 & Refrain
Though the world allure with its gilded charm,
I’m a child of God, whom it cannot harm;
He will me uphold by His mighty arm,
Every moment of my day.
Chorus:
I’ve a Friend who will ev’ry need supply,
I’ve a home far beyond the starry sky;
And you know, that is just the reason why
I am singing Hallelujah!
I can ne’er forget how upon the tree
Lay the Son of God, there to die for me;
Yet to save my soul, thus it had to be,
There could be no other way.
I would e’er be true to my Lord and King,
Every waking hour praise to Him sing;
Knowing that at last He my soul shall bring,
Evermore with Him to stay.
Amen.
