TOPIC: LEADERS TOO CAN BE WRONG

MEMORY VERSE

EXPOSITION

Despite his great privilege and calling as one of the foremost leaders of the early Church, Peter was not without faults. Though highly respected as a pillar of the faith, his human weakness became evident when fear led him into hypocrisy. He withdrew from fellowship with Gentile believers simply to please certain Jewish brethren, placing human opinion above God’s revealed truth concerning salvation and unity in Christ. How often do we act the same way when faced with pressure or criticism?

Peter was clearly wrong, but God raised Paul—humble yet courageous—to confront the error openly and lovingly, not through gossip or backbiting. This encounter reminds us that leadership does not confer infallibility. Leaders are human, and humanity is prone to error. No matter how esteemed a leader may be, only God is without fault.

Therefore, pride and complacency must be avoided. When errors occur, the right response is humility, repentance, and correction. Scripture encourages us to acknowledge our sins and seek forgiveness from God and reconciliation with others (1 John 1:8–10; 2:1). David’s response to Nathan’s rebuke stands as a timeless example—he accepted correction, expressed genuine remorse, repented promptly, bore the consequences, and sought restoration and renewal (2 Samuel 12:1–13; Psalm 51).

Growth in leadership and spirituality comes when we take responsibility for our mistakes and choose to walk in obedience and humility. Each day, we become better when we turn from error and align ourselves afresh with God’s will.

PRAYER POINTS

Lord, deliver me from the spirit of pride and complacency.

Lord, help me to avoid errors in leadership and decision-making.

Father, deliver our leaders at all levels from making costly mistakes, in Jesus’ name.
