LESSON AIM & OBJECTIVES: To understand significance of music from a biblical perspective, delving into its origins, purpose, and role in worship and daily life. Through the lesson, students should be able to:

2. Explore how music can be used to glorify God and edify believers
INTRODUCTION: Music has the power to move, inspire, and uplift the human soul The condition of our hearts is reflected in the music we create and enjoy. As believers, we are called to gual for hearts is reflensure that our musical choices align with God's truth and values. A. THE ORIGIN AND PURPOSE OF MUSIC
i. Music is mentioned early in the Bible, tracing its origins back to the time of Cain and Abel. Genesis 4:21.
ii. It was created by God as a means of expression and communication, reflecting the beauty and creativity of the Creator. Psalm 150:6.
iii. The primary purpose of music is to praise God and declare His greatness. Throughout the Psalms, we see music used as a vehicle for worship, thanksgiving, and celebration.
iv. Believers are instructed to "sing and make music from your heart to the Lord," indicating that music plays a central role in corporate worship. Ephesians 5:19.
v. Whether through singing hymns, psalms, or spiritual songs, music unites believers in praise and adoration of God. Colossians 3:16:
vi. Music is also a means of teaching and admonishing one another, as we sing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs with gratitude in our hearts.
B. THE SPIRITUAL POWER OF MUSIC (PSALMS, HYMNS, AND SPIRITUAL SONGS).
i. Psalms, Hymns, and Spiritual Songs has the power to soothe troubled spirits and drive away evil. When King Saul was tormented by an evil spirit, David's skillful playing on the harp brought him relief. 1 Samuel 16:23.
ii. 2 Chronicles 20:21-22 Psalms, Hymns, and Spiritual Songs can be a weapon of spiritual warfare, as demonstrated when the people of Judah defeated their enemies through singing and praising God.
iii. Psalms, Hymns, and Spiritual Songs can play a role in spiritual warfare, as seen in the biblical accounts of praising God to overcome enemies and spiritual opposition. Acts 16:25-26.
iv. Healing and Restoration: Psalms, Hymns, and Spiritual Songs has therapeutic qualities that can bring healing and restoration to the soul through the supreme power of God.
C. REQUIREMENTS FOR A MUSIC MINISTER
1. He/She must be Born Again. John 3:3-5.
2. He/She must be chosen and ordained by God. 1 Peter 2:9
3. He/She must be consecrated to God. 1 Chron. 15:12, 14 16, 2 Chron. 5:11-12.
4. He/She must be trained continually. 1 Chron. 15:2 25:1-8, Neh. 11:12.
5. He/She must be ready to serve God.
SUMMARY: In summary, the power of music in Christianity lies in its ability to facilitate worship, deepen spiritual connection, convey biblical truths, foster unity, engage in spiritual warfare, and bring healing and restoration to believers. As an integral part of Christian life and worship, music serves as a conduit for encountering the presence of God and expressing faith in Him.
CONCLUSION: Music is a precious gift from God, given to humanity to glorify Him and edify one another. As believers, we are called to use music wisely, ensuring that it aligns with biblical truth and glorifies God in all its forms.
