DATE: Monday, May 12, 2025.

TOPIC: THE LIVING FAITH (I)
MEMORISE: Now the Just shall live by faith; but if anyone draws back: My soul has no pleasure in him (Hebrews 10:38).

READ: Daniel 3:13-20
[13]. Then Nebuchadnezzar, in rage and fury, gave the command to bring Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego. So they brought these men before the king.
[14]. Nebuchadnezzar spoke, saying to them, “Is it true, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego, that you do not serve my gods or worship the gold image which I have set up?
[15] Now if you are ready at the time you hear the sound of the horn, flute, harp, lyre, and psaltery, in symphony with all kinds of music, and you fall down and worship the image which I have made, good! But if you do not worship, you shall be cast immediately into the midst of a burning fiery furnace. And who is the god who will deliver you from my hands?”
[16]. Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego answered and said to the king, “O Nebuchadnezzar, we have no need to answer you in this matter.
[17]. If that is the case, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and He will deliver us from your hand, O king.
[18]. But if not, let it be known to you, O king, that we do not serve your gods, nor will we worship the gold image which you have set up.”
[19]. Then Nebuchadnezzar was full of fury, and the expression on his face changed toward Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego. He spoke and commanded that they heat the furnace seven times more than it was usually heated.
[20]. And he commanded certain mighty men of valor who were in his army to bind Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego, and cast them into the burning fiery furnace.

EXPOSITION
Faith is all about risk-taking for God. There is no hope for any believer who cannot exercise genuine faith in God. Our memory verse describes what keeps the just living-faith. Faith in the basis on which God provides justification and in His decisions as He governs the world.

The unwavering faith of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego is laid bare in our text. These people were threatened to recant and abjure their allegiance to God, or risk being cast into the fiery furnace for their refusal to bow down to the golden image of Nebuchadnezzar. Their unwavering conviction in the LORD is palpable. Faced with the threat of imminent death, they boldly declared, "If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God we serve is able to deliver us from it and he will deliver us from Your Majesty's hand. But even if he does not, we want you to know, Your Majesty, that we will not serve your gods or worship the image of gold you have set up (Dan. 3:17-18 NIV)." What a great resolve to hold onto God! As a believer, you may be stuck between dying for God or bowing to the world. But try to live for God by faith. It pays by far!

SUGGESTED HYMN FOR TODAY:
CAC GHB: 634
C M
1. O for a faith that will not shrink
Tho' press'd by ev'ry foe
But in the hour of grief or pain
Will lean upon its God.
2. This is incomprehensible
Yet will I fear no foe
With God all things are possible
His words shall never fail.
3. Lord, give us such a faith as this
That faith that never fails
A faith that keeps the narrow way
Till life's last spark is fled.
Amen.
