DAILY DEVOTIONAL GUIDE

TOPIC: A BLESSING TO GENERATIONS (I)

MEMORISE : The generous soul will be made rich, and he who waters will also be watered himself (Proverbs 11:25).

READ: Genesis 12:1-4

[1]. Now the Lord had said to Abram: “Get out of your country, from your family and from your father’s house, to a land that I will show you.

[2]. I will make you a great nation; I will bless you and make your name great; and you shall be a blessing.

[3]. I will bless those who bless you, and I will curse him who curses you; and in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.”

[4]. So Abram departed as the Lord had spoken to him, and Lot went with him. And Abram was seventy-five years old when he departed from Haran.

EXPOSITION

Becoming a blessing to future generations isn't a mere fantasy; it requires unwavering obedience to God's commands. In Genesis 12:2, God instructed Abram to leave his homeland and family, setting the stage for him to become a blessing to many. Every promise of God entails certain conditions that must be met; obedience is key.

Abram obeyed, despite the seemingly impractical nature of the instructions, and his faithfulness led to a remarkable change: from Abram to Abraham, signifying his role as the father of many nations, a legacy we inherit through faith in Christ Jesus (Gal. 3:29).

Abraham's faith, demonstrated by leaving his comfort zone and showing generosity even to strangers, serves as a model for us today. His actions illustrate the principle of sowing and reaping (cf. Prov. 11:25; Lk 6:38). God is faithful to His promises; He prioritises His Word above all else. To become vessels of blessings, we must therefore nurture our relationship with God and willingly obey His commands. Through obedience, we can fulfil our purpose of being conduits of His blessings to others.

PRAYER POINTS

1. Lord, give me the grace to obey You in all things, both in season and out of season.

2. Holy Spirit, help me to lay aside every worldly desire in total submission to Your Will, in Jesus' name.

3. Oh Lord, help Your Church to grow daily in Your grace.
