TOPIC: PLEASING GOD (IV)
MEMORISE
And He Who sent Me is with Me. The Father has not left Me alone, for I always do those things that please Him (John 8:29).
READ: John 8:20-29
[20]. These words Jesus spoke in the treasury, as He taught in the temple; and no one laid hands on Him, for His hour had not yet come.
[22]. So the Jews said, “Will He kill Himself, because He says, ‘Where I go you cannot come’?”
[23]. And He said to them, “You are from beneath; I am from above. You are of this world; I am not of this world.
[24]. Therefore I said to you that you will die in your sins; for if you do not believe that I am He, you will die in your sins.”
[25]. Then they said to Him, “Who are You?” And Jesus said to them, “Just what I have been saying to you from the beginning.
[26]. I have many things to say and to judge concerning you, but He who sent Me is true; and I speak to the world those things which I heard from Him.”
[27]. They did not understand that He spoke to them of the Father.
[28]. Then Jesus said to them, “When you lift up the Son of Man, then you will know that I am He, and that I do nothing of Myself; but as My Father taught Me, I speak these things.
[29]. And He who sent Me is with Me. The Father has not left Me alone, for I always do those things that please Him.”
EXPOSITION
For some days now, the Holy Spirit has been assisting us to realise the importance of choosing to please God above pleasing ourselves and others. Let us see what our point of action should be when pleasing our Maker clashes with pleasing men. Imagine the young prophet, listening to the old prophet against divine instructions (1 Kgs. 13). Adam decided to heed the voice of his wife and the consequence is still very fresh today.
Choosing to do the will of His Father defined Christ's earthly ministry. As His follower, emulate His example. Despite opposition, He remained focused on God's will, earning His full support.
Consider: Who do you seek to please? Pleasing God may require sacrificing personal desires, or facing disapproval. The early apostles exemplified this (Acts 4:19), prioritising God's will above all else. To enjoy God's presence always, prioritise pleasing Him in all you do. May you receive grace for this pursuit. Amen.
PRAYER POINTS
1. Help me, Lord, to do what pleases You, even if it affects my life.
2. Lord Jesus, strengthen those facing trials for pleasing You, to overcome.
3. Pray for CAC Odusona Region, our father in the Lord, the Regional Superintendent, and other officers at the various levels as led by the Spirit of God.
