DAILY DEVOTIONAL GUIDE

TOPIC: THE POTTER AND THE CLAY
DATE: Tuesday January 14, 2025
(World Logic Day)
MEMORISE
For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them (Ephesians 2:10).
READ: Isaiah 64:8
[8]. But now, O Lord, You are our Father; we are the clay, and You our potter; and all we are the work of Your hand.

EXPOSITION
The craft of pottery-making is a very old one, where a potter who works the clay on the spinning stool, relates with the clay and moulds it into any shape as he wills. The pliant clay doesn't question his mastery. Such a scenario is what feremiah described when he was sent to the potter's house He encountered the potter breaking down the pot already made because it was marred in his hand. The clay never questioned the potter. This resonates with submission and readiness to fulfil the potter's will, no matter what. God used Jeremiah's experience to challenge the house of Israel, who weren't showing any recourse to Him as their Maker who has the right to deal with them as He wishes. This is a significant lesson for us, we don't have the right to contest our lives with God. We are called to submit to God's sovereignty, acknowledging Him as our Father and ourselves as His creation; His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works (Eph. 2:10). Let us embrace our role as clay in the hands of the Divine Potter, yielding to His shaping and direction, as this is very logical on this World Logic Day.

SUGGESTED HYMN FOR TODAY:
CAC GHB: 809
1. When we walk with the lord
In the light of his word
What a glory He sheds on our way!
While we do His good will,
He abides with us still,
And with all who will trust and obey
Chorus:
Trust and obey, for there's no other way
To be happy in Jesus,
But to trust and obey
2. Not a shadow can rise,
Not a cloud in the skies,
But His smile quickly drives it away;
Not a doubt nor a fear
Not a sigh nor a tear,
Can abide while we trust and obey.
3. Not a burden we bear,
Not a sorrow we share
But our toil he doth richly repay;
Not a grief nor a loss,
Not a frown nor a cross,
But is blest if we trust and obey.
4. But we never can prove
The delights of His love
Until all on the alter we lay;
For the favour He shows,
And the joy he bestows,
Are for them who will trust and obey.
5. Then in fellowship sweet
We will sit at His feet,
Or we'll walk by His side in the way;
What He says we will do
Where He sends we will go
Never fear, only trust and obey.
Amen.
