TOPIC: HOPE YOUR EYES AREN'T GROWING DIM?

And it came to pass at that time, while Eli was lying down in his place, and when his eyes had begun to grow so dim that he could not see (1 Samuel 3:2).

[1].    Now the boy Samuel ministered to the Lord before Eli. And the word of the Lord was rare in those days; there was no widespread revelation. 

[2].    And it came to pass at that time, while Eli was lying down in his place, and when his eyes had begun to grow so dim that he could not see, 

[3].    and before the lamp of God went out in the tabernacle of the Lord where the ark of God was, and while Samuel was lying down,

EXPOSITION

From our text today, we see that Eli's eyes were growing dìm (v.2) and the light was almost out in the tabernacle -- 2 terrible conditions. Lots of spiritual eyes are growing dim today. They can no longer see through the Word and things of God well. They can hardly discern the things of God from the devil's. No wonder they fall into errors easily. They are children, tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, in the cunning craftiness of deceitful plotting (Eph. 4:14). Their spiritual eyes have been terribly affected along with other senses that they hardly hear God's Word clearly again. Hope this is not your situation?

Lots of light are growing dim and almost out. They are fast losing the Light of God's Word, thus making them less of the light of the World they should be (cf. Matt. 5:14-16). Exodus 27: 20 commands, And you shall command the children of Israel that they bring you pure oil of pressed olives for the light, to cause the lamp to burn continually. This verse essentially conveys the idea that the lamp should never be allowed to go out, ensuring that God's presence is always acknowledged in the Tabernacle. But on that day, the light was almost out added to the dimming eyes of Eli. Don't allow your spiritual situation to degenerate to this. Make sure your spiritual eyes aren't going dim and that your light isn't going out. You need to stay put, glued in Christ and His Word which is the True Way (Jn. 15:14).

PRAYER POINTS 

1.     Holy Spirit, let Your power regularly sharpen my spiritual eyes to never miss anything You want me to see and understand.

2.     Open my eyes, Oh Lord, that I may see wonderful things in Your Word continually (Psalm 119:18).

3.     Pray that our church leaders would continually see and hear God's mind for us always, in Jesus' name.
